World Cup Trading

Betting does not necessarily require someone to pick a winner to make a profit, many punters these days are using Betfair to make a profit from spotting value in bets or backing selections that have a big chance of dropping in price before the event finishes.

These selections can then be laid on Betfair to guarantee a profit whatever happens.

Make Money from World Cup Trading

So to make money out of trading at the World Cup you need to examine each market and pick selections that you think are going to increase or decrease dramatically in price. Then you can lay them or back them respectively with a view to doing the opposite (back if you laid or lay if you backed) once the price has changed. Here are our thoughts on some areas we think should be profitable:

Trading Teams Who May Start The Group Stage Badly But Still Qualify

Obviously two sides qualify from each group and it is inevitable that some sides will lose their first game and go on to qualify, especially if they have their toughest game up first.

After losing (or even drawing) in their first game the odds on them qualifying should get bigger, so if you have laid them to qualify before the first game, then they get bigger, you can then back them at a bigger price to secure a guaranteed profit.

Nigeria play Argentina in the first game of their group campaign and Nigeria are a decent bet to grab second spot in that group, ahead of Denmark. After one game Nigeria will probably have no points and Denmark should have three so Nigeria will have drifted to a decent price to qualify, lay them to do so before the tournament and then back them to qualify after the first round of games.

Trading Teams Who Won't Win The World Cup But Will Shorten In Second Round

Pretty much every team that qualifies for the Second Round should shorten in the World Cup Outright Betting as there will be less teams left in and they should theoretically have a better chance of winning the World Cup as a result of getting through the World Cup Group Fixtures. You can back some teams to win the World Cup before it starts and then after the Group Stage you can lay them in the same market at a shorter price, guaranteeing yourself a profit.

Two teams that standout in this category are Chile and Paraguay. Both should defintely get out the group stage with Honduras/Switzerland and New Zealand/Slovakia the worst two sides in their respective groups. By backing them before the tournament and laying them after the group stage you should be able to secure a guaranteed profit. Paraguay have a great chance of winning their group and that would see them play Nigeria or Denmark in the Second Round, another winnable game, so you could even wait to lay them at a shorter price after the Second Round if they manage to win the group. Obviously you can wait until the Group Stage results are known before making that decision.

Trading Teams That Are Underpriced To Win The World Cup

Both Ivory Coast and Portugal are very unlikely to win the World Cup as they have both been drawn in the same group as Brazil so one of them will be going out in the Group Stage. Then, presuming Brazil win the group, the team that comes second and qualifies should face Spain, the World Cup favourites. This means by the Quarter Finals both teams should be out of the World Cup. By laying both teams before the tournament their should be an opportunity to back them at bigger prices to secure a profit when they look in danger of going out.

Trading Players Who Will Score Goals During The Group Stage

Unless you score about six goals in the three group games you will need to get to the quarter finals at least to become the World Cup Golden Boot. Some players will score as many goals as the eventual Golden Boot at the group stage and it is the players who already have the goals in the bank who will be the favourites in the Golden Boot Betting so backing players who have easy group fixtures and then laying them after the group stage should guarantee a profit.

Chile's Humberto Suazo and Paraguay's Roque Santa Cruz have both been prolific strikers. Suazo was the top scorer in the South American Qualifying section, scoring ten goals. Roque Santa Cruz managed just three goals but that was in just five games as he struggled with injuries during qualifying. We know from his club football that he is a very good goalscorer too. Chile should get goals against Switzerland and Honduras whilst Paraguay will score plenty past New Zealand and Slovakia. Once the group stage is done they could be the two favourites in the Golden Boot Odds but they probably won't end up winning it so either way lay them off after three matches.
