Spain v Switzerland

The World Cup 2010 favourites get their World Cup underway against Switzerland, who qualified for the World Cup as qualifying group winners. Spain won Euro 2008 and their performance here will be watched by many who want to see if they are as good as we all expect them to be. Switzerland meanwhile will probably just hope to escape with their goal difference intact to give them the best chance of still qualifying for the knockout stages.

Spain v Switzerland Match Odds

Match betting is a massively popular market and the first market most punters choose to look at as your decision in this market is likely to impact all other bets you place on the game.

BACK SPAIN TO BEAT SWITZERLAND

Spain face a very winnable but not easy game at the beginning of the 2010 World Cup and with all their great players it is a game where you would expect them to boss possession and score a couple of goals at least. This is the sort of performance they will need to put in to justify being the early favourites in the World Cup Outright Odds.

Switzerland must be pleased with winning their qualification group after a rather disastrous Euro 2008 as hosts (the same tournament that was won in impressive fashion by this game's opponents). They might be a bit flattered by that though as it was the weakest of the qualifying groups and Switzerland might be fairly happy if they emerge without too much damage to their goal difference.

Spain v Switzerland Asian Handicap Odds

The Asian Handicap is an interesting bet as it usually gives one team a lead that should be enough to cancel out any superiority the favourites for the game have.

BACK SPAIN -1.5

Spain are likely to be fairly clear winners of this game, two or three goals would be the expected winning margin. If you really fancy Spain then spain -1.5  at the current odds of around evens looks very generous. We may have have seen too many goals at the World Cup so far but Spain are a very attacking and lethal team who should win this by a decent margin.

BACK SPAIN TO WIN 2-0 AND TO WIN TO NIL

Spain had a clear statistic of eight out of ten qualifying games ending with over 2.5 goals which will be music to the ears of anyone wanting to back over 2.5 goals but five of those had exactly three goals so against slightly more defensive sides those overs games could easily turn into unders.

Switzerland seemed a tough side in qualifying, they kept five clean sheets in ten games and conceded just eight goals. Despite winning the group, only two teams scored less goals in the group so don't expect Switzerland to be contributing many, if any goals to this game. Overs/Unders is just too hard to call but you can bank on a Spain clean sheet and the score is very likely to come down to 2-0 or 3-0, with few goals so far in the World Cup a strong trend is emerging so go for the slightly more conservative call of 2-0.

Spain v Switzerland Player Odds

Some of the most fun markets to bet on are the player markets, such as first goalscorer and anytime goalscorer. They are usually relatively big odds and can give plenty of reward if you pick correctly.

Spain v Switzerland Team News

Spain's massive selection of talent should be on show including strike duo David Villa and Fernando Torres, as well as midfield maestro Xavi and his Barcelona team mate Andres Iniesta.

BACK DAVID VILLA TO SCORE FIRST, ANYTIME AND TWICE AGAINST THE SWISS

David Villa is by far Spain's deadliest goal threat, despite the presence of Fernando Torres, and he should be able to help himself to at least one goal in this game, although he could end up with two or maybe three goals. He scored more than twice as many as his next most prolific team mate in qualifying with seven goals in seven games and you are looking at a similar story at Euro 2008, where he ended up as the tournament's top scorer. Villa should dominate bets on goalscorers in this game.

Spain v Switzerland Half Time Odds

The latest tips that include the half time result in them, some of the most popular bets here are half time result and half time/full time.

BACK SPAIN 1-0 AT HALF TIME AND SPAIN / SPAIN IN THE HALF TIME BETTING

Both sides seem to experience low scoring first halves of games, Spain scored eleven goals in the first halves of their qualifying games and eighteen goals in the second halves so it is possible this could be all square still at half time, although a more likely outcome is that they will be exactly 1-0 up at half time and that should be backed as well as Spain being in front at both half time and full time.

Spain v Switzerland Best Bet

It seems it will be almost impossible for Switzerland to keep Spanish goal machine David Villa quiet in this match as he has been Spain's top scorer in every competition in recent years and it is rather inevitable that he will end up scoring at least one goal. Backing Villa to score at anytime is playing it safe a little but the odds offer great value and he looks a very good bet.
